Right, I'm going to be honest with you about tracking lines. I don't love them. They represent a level of oversight that I, as a highly capable and independently-minded gundog, find mildly insulting. However — and I say this with great reluctance — I understand their purpose. They help handlers build trust gradually, and they keep young or less experienced dogs safe while their recall develops. How To Use
Attach the clip to your dog's collar before beginning the training session. Allow the line to trail loosely on the ground as your dog works, stepping on it or picking it up to interrupt unwanted behaviour or reinforce a stop or recall command. Gradually increase the working distance as your dog's reliability improves. Never leave a dog unattended with a tracking line attached. After use, rinse off mud and allow to dry naturally before storing coiled to prevent tangling.
