The Sporting Saint Field Trial Pro Brace Set is a premium two-dog slip lead built for the competition and training field. Constructed from 5mm English braid with stainless rope thimbles and a spring-loaded stopper, it handles two dogs with precision and control — compact enough to fold into a pocket, available in five distinctive colours.

Why We Recommend It

We recommend the Field Trial Pro Brace Set because it solves a problem every handler with two dogs knows well: managing both dogs cleanly, confidently, and without tangles when moving between drives, pegs, or training stations.

The spring-loaded stopper is the standout feature — it moves smoothly and locks exactly where you set it, giving you precise control over both dogs without fumbling. The stainless rope thimbles ensure the lead glides consistently even in wet or muddy conditions, and the smooth braid cover means it won't wear or fray with heavy use.

The addition of swivels to the current design is a significant upgrade — it eliminates the twisting that used to be the main frustration with brace leads. This is now one of the most refined brace leads on the market at this price point, and the five colour options mean you can colour-code your dogs or simply choose your favourite.

Bailey Says 🐾

Right, my friends — two dogs on one lead sounds like chaos, but with the right kit it's actually very elegant. I've seen Craig use this brace set at training days and it genuinely impresses people.

The stopper is the clever bit. You set it, it stays. No sliding, no readjusting mid-drive — just clean, confident handling of two dogs at once. And the swivels mean no more twisted leads when one dog decides to spin around the other.

If you're running two dogs regularly, this is the lead that makes you look like you know exactly what you're doing. Which, with this in your pocket, you will. 🐾 — Bailey

How To Use

Step 1 — Fit the first loop Slip the first loop over the head of your first dog and position it correctly behind the ears. Adjust the stopper to sit snugly against the neck.

Step 2 — Fit the second loop Repeat for your second dog with the second loop. Ensure both dogs are comfortable and the lead is sitting correctly on both before moving.

Step 3 — Set the stopper position Slide the spring-loaded stopper to your preferred position between the two dogs. Press firmly to lock — it should hold without slipping during movement.

Step 4 — Move with confidence Walk with both dogs at heel. The swivels allow each dog to move naturally without twisting the lead. Keep the looped handle secure in your hand at all times.

Step 5 — Release cleanly To release a dog, simply slip the loop over the head. The smooth braid and thimbles allow for a quick, clean release even in wet conditions.

Care Guide

  • Rinse with clean water after muddy or wet use and allow to air dry naturally
  • Do not tumble dry or place on direct heat sources
  • Check the spring-loaded stopper and swivels regularly for wear or stiffness
  • Inspect the braid for fraying or damage before each use
  • Store loosely coiled in a dry, ventilated space
  • Replace if the braid becomes significantly frayed or the stopper fails to lock reliably

Professional Insight

The brace lead is one of those pieces of kit that separates experienced handlers from beginners at a trial. The key to using it well is setting the stopper correctly before you move — too loose and the dogs interfere with each other, too tight and you lose the natural movement that keeps both dogs calm. Get the stopper position right for your two dogs and this lead becomes almost invisible in your hand.

Training Academy Tip 💡

Introduce the brace lead to each dog individually before using it on both together. Let each dog wear their loop and walk calmly on it alone first — this removes the novelty before you add the complexity of a second dog. When you first use it on both dogs together, keep the session short and reward calm walking heavily. Most dogs adapt within two or three sessions.

FAQs

What is a brace lead? A brace lead is a single lead designed to control two dogs simultaneously. The Field Trial Pro Brace Set features two slip loops connected by a single lead with a looped handle, allowing one handler to manage two dogs cleanly and efficiently.

How does the spring-loaded stopper work? The stopper slides freely along the lead and locks in position when pressed. This allows you to set the distance between the two dogs precisely and keep it consistent during movement without the stopper slipping.

Does it come with swivels? Yes — the current version of the Field Trial Pro Brace Set is manufactured with swivels as standard, which prevents the lead from twisting when the dogs move independently.

What colours is it available in? The brace set is available in five colours: Green, Orange, Blue, Red, and Olive. Many handlers buy multiple colours to colour-code their dogs or match their kit.

Can I extend it to a trio or quad? Yes — Sporting Saint recommend adding Field Trial Pro Slip Collars in 26" to create a trio or quad setup.

Is it suitable for all breeds? Yes — the brace set works on any breed. It is particularly popular with working Labradors, spaniels, and retrievers at field trials and working tests.
