My friends, I want to be honest with you about the drying bag. It is an affront to my dignity. I am a working dog of considerable standing and being placed inside what is essentially a very absorbent sleeping bag is not something I accept gracefully. Introduce the bag at home, on a warm day, with no pressure. Open it flat on the floor. Put a few treats inside. Let your dog walk in and out freely. Once they're comfortable, practise lifting the sides and doing the zip slowly, rewarding throughout. Three or four short sessions at home and most dogs will walk in willingly — because the bag predicts treats, not cold and stress.
For dogs doing regular water work, build the bag into the post-retrieve routine from the start of the season: retrieve, return, bag on, treat. It becomes part of the sequence and most dogs stop noticing it entirely within a few weeks. Bailey is, apparently, an exception to this rule.
