A realistic Dog & Field Original Clone® Grouse 1/2lb dummy for grouse-oriented gundog training and dogs progressing to lighter gamebird retrieves, designed to develop moorland-style marking, confident pick-up and balanced delivery of a lighter dummy.
Why We Recommend It
We recommend this model because it gives grouse-focused handlers a reusable, consistent training aid with more visual relevance than a plain dummy. The Original Clone® print is distinctive, while the purposeful weight supports realistic progression.

The 1/2lb weight supports an appropriate stage of carrying and retrieve progression.
Traditional profile encourages a balanced central hold and clean delivery.
Throwing toggle supports consistent, repeatable retrieves.
Half a pound, grouse-patterned and just the thing for proving that careful work beats charging about hopefully. — Bailey 🐾

Begin with short, visible retrieves to establish a confident pick-up and clean return.

Finish while the dog remains keen, then collect and store the dummy rather than allowing chewing or unsupervised play.
Care Guide
Remove mud and debris after use and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Air dry naturally away from direct heat before returning it to the training bag.
Inspect the canvas, stitching and throwing cord before every session; replace the dummy if damage could make it unsafe.
Professional Insight
Quarry-specific dummies are most useful when they support a clear training objective. For the Grouse version, use the pattern and weight to develop moorland-style marking, confident pick-up and balanced delivery of a lighter dummy. Change only one variable at a time—distance, cover, memory or weight—so the dog understands the lesson and confidence remains high.
Training Academy Tip 💡
Use the Grouse pattern with purpose: start where the fall is easy to mark, then add cover or distance gradually. If accuracy drops, simplify the exercise immediately rather than repeating a confused retrieve.
ProTrain Principle
Train for the quarry, progress one variable at a time and finish with confidence.
Complete Your Setup
Build a progressive set around this Grouse dummy with a lighter puppy dummy, a standard canvas dummy, a whistle and lanyard, and a larger or heavier retrieve when the dog is ready. A dummy bag keeps the equipment dry, organised and unavailable for chewing between exercises.

Designed for supervised gundog retrieve training, especially grouse-oriented gundog training and dogs progressing to lighter gamebird retrieves. Supports moorland-style marking, confident pick-up and balanced delivery of a lighter dummy. Not a chew toy; air dry after use.
