The Altavio Mid GTX sits in a sweet spot that many handlers will find ideal — it has all the waterproofing and grip credentials of the High, but the mid-cut profile makes it more versatile for everyday field use, driving between locations, and days where you want serious performance without the full ankle commitment of a high boot. The addition of the Ortholite® foam insole is a genuine upgrade for all-day comfort, and at £152.00 it represents outstanding value for a Gore-Tex Vibram boot from a brand with 170+ years of outdoor heritage.

Bailey Says 🐾
Now, I know Craig has the High version and I've already endorsed that. But I want to be fair to the Mid, because not every handler needs a full high boot every day. Sometimes you're doing a shorter session, or you're moving between the car and the field a lot, or you just want something that feels a bit more like a proper boot and less like you're about to summit something. The Mid GTX is that boot. Same Gore-Tex, same Vibram, same Aigle quality — just a bit more adaptable. My friends, know your terrain and choose accordingly. 🐾
Perfect For
- Gundog handlers who want versatile field boots for mixed terrain and varied session lengths
- Shooting day participants who prefer a mid-cut boot for all-day comfort
- Handlers who move frequently between vehicle and field and want a more adaptable boot
- Hikers and farm workers who need serious waterproofing without a full high-cut boot
- Anyone choosing between the Altavio High and Mid — the Mid is the more versatile everyday option

How To Use
Lace the boots firmly for a secure fit before heading out. The mid-cut profile provides good ankle support while allowing natural movement — ensure the lacing is snug but not restrictive. After use in wet or muddy conditions, remove excess mud with a brush and allow to dry naturally away from direct heat. Do not place near radiators or use a boot dryer on high heat, as this can damage the Gore-Tex membrane and leather upper. The Ortholite insole can be removed for airing if needed.
Care Guide
- Remove mud with a soft brush and rinse with cool water after field use
- Allow to dry naturally at room temperature — never use direct heat
- Treat the leather upper periodically with a quality leather conditioner or wax to maintain water repellency
- Re-proof the Gore-Tex membrane with a DWR spray when water no longer beads on the surface
- Remove the Ortholite insole to air after heavy use
- Store upright in a cool, dry place — use boot trees to maintain shape
- Do not machine wash

Training Academy Tip 💡
When choosing between a mid and high boot for field work, consider your typical terrain and session length. Mid boots offer more freedom of movement and are easier to get on and off — useful when you're moving between locations frequently. High boots provide more ankle support and protection in rough or uneven terrain. Many experienced handlers keep both — the Mid for training days, the High for shooting days and challenging ground.

FAQs
What is the difference between the Altavio Mid and the Altavio High?
The Altavio Mid has a mid-cut profile for greater versatility and ease of movement, while the Altavio High offers a taller cut with more ankle support and protection. Both feature Gore-Tex waterproofing and a Vibram outsole. The Mid also includes an Ortholite® foam insole for enhanced cushioning. Choose the Mid for versatility and everyday field use; choose the High for maximum ankle support in the most demanding terrain.
Are these boots true to size?
Aigle boots are sized in EU sizing. We recommend ordering your usual EU size. If you're between sizes or plan to wear thick socks, consider sizing up. As a guide: EU 39 = UK 6, EU 40 = UK 6.5–7, EU 41 = UK 7.5, EU 42 = UK 8, EU 43 = UK 9, EU 44 = UK 9.5–10, EU 45 = UK 10.5, EU 46 = UK 11.
What does Ortholite® foam do?
Ortholite® is a premium open-cell foam insole technology that provides superior cushioning, breathability, and moisture management compared to standard insoles. It helps reduce foot fatigue on long days and maintains its cushioning properties over time.
How do I maintain the waterproofing?
Clean and dry the boots thoroughly, then apply a quality DWR re-proofer spray to the outer. Also treat the leather upper with a wax or conditioner. Do this at the start of each season and after heavy use to maintain peak Gore-Tex performance.
